Juventus Turin fans choose new goal hymn via blockchain app
The Italian first division club Juventus Turin has let its fans choose a new goal hymn. The Juventus disciples used the blockchain-based platform Socios.com. The choice of the anthem marks the first application of blockchain technology for such a vote.
Socios opened the election last December. It went along with the start of sales of the associated Juventus fan tokens. The purchase of the tokens was a prerequisite for being able to participate in the decision about the goal hymn. The result has been known since January 6. Juventus hits will be the classic in the future Song 2 the British rock band Blur celebrated.
Socios wants to create a new communication channel between fans and club
The vote on the goal hymn marks the end of a long development phase for Socios. Because the Juventus fan token was already announced in September 2018. The blockchain platform now offers 20 million of these tokens. They are available for around $ 2 each.
The benefit of the tokens lies in the so-called fan engagement. With the help of the token and the platform, the supporters of a club should therefore be more closely tied to their club. The blockchain platform provides opportunities for active participation. Voting should involve fans in club decisions. In addition, points and comparable reward systems should keep club supporters on the ball. Alexandre Dreyfus, CEO of Socios.com:
Our goal, our “raison d’être”, is to give fans the opportunity to get closer to the club they love. There are 423 million Juventus fans around the world who have the opportunity. And not only have we given fans the opportunity to be heard, we have also created a new communication channel for the club that enables them to better understand, recognize and reward their worldwide fan base.
However, other top international clubs have also recognized the benefits of such a platform and have entered into a partnership with Socios. West Ham United and Paris Saint-Germain will soon be launching their own fan tokens.
UEFA also uses blockchain
Meanwhile, fan engagement is not the only use case that makes blockchain appear attractive to the football world. As part of the European Football Championship 2020, UEFA announced that it would like to issue some of the tickets in token form.
The football association wants to counteract the illegal ticket business. Because the transfer of tickets to the Ethereum Blockchain promises a higher degree of control over their selling price. Ultimately, a maximum amount could be fixed via a smart contract. Only VIP tickets should initially be affected by the tokenization. Despite this small number of tickets, this early attempt could turn out to be trend-setting.
