PSV Eindhoven made history in the world of cryptocurrencies and you won’t believe what the reason is

Dutch football club PSV Eindhoven officially became the first European football team to receive sponsorship in Bitcoin , thanks to its recent partnership with Anycoin Direct.

With this news, PSV Eindhoven makes history both in the world of sport and in cryptocurrencies, as well as its foray into the world of the cryptographic and blockchain ecosystem, after having previously launched its NFT collection, in honor of its victory in the European Cup in 1988.

The club and Anycoin Direct are based in Brainport, Europe’s leading region for technology development.

“Going forward, PSV decided to use the Anycoin Direct service in a unique way. The full amount of the sponsorship is paid in BTC, “the club mentioned in a statement.

With this, Anycoin Direct will become the official partner of PSV Eindhoven for the next two seasons .

Both parties state that the goal is “to increase awareness of cryptocurrencies and Anycoin Direct in Europe.”

The sponsorship equivalent is estimated at around € 400,000 per season. However, if the Bitcoins lose their value, the club receives a guaranteed return of an unknown amount.

On the agreement, Frans Janssen, commercial director of PSV, commented that “the opportunities and the future that the world of cryptocurrencies offers are very promising.”

He believes that the club’s location, in the heart of the Brainport region, allows it to always be highly innovative and the digital asset space “fits that image well.”

COO of Anycoin Direct, Lennert Vlemmings said that “as a technology company in Brainport area, we are very pleased to work with PSV. Paying in Bitcoin is the next step to introduce the cryptocurrency in the European Union”.

PSV set up the necessary BTC wallets to facilitate the association and receive the funds.

The club and its NFTs

Earlier this year, PSV Eindhoven minted a collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

The club sold them to commemorate the victory in the European Cup final over Benefica in 1988.

However, PSV Eindhoven is not the first club associated with cryptocurrencies.

More and more football clubs are discovering digital currencies for themselves and placing so-called fan tokens on cryptocurrency exchanges.

Fans can buy the tokens and trade with them. A very speculative and very volatile investment.

At the same time, the participating football clubs promise the holders of their fan cards that they will have more voice in the club.
